Inside Runs
Each dog has an individual inside area with access via a doggie door to their own covered outside area. Private inside areas are 4 x 5 in dimension and are separated by fencing. Stainless steel water bowls are kept down 24 hours a day and are refilled throughout the day. Regardless of breed size, every dog enjoys the same spacious run.
During your pets morning period of outside exercise, the inside areas are disinfected, sanitized, cleaned and dried. Throughout the day as necessary the inside areas are spot cleaned free of any accidents. Throughout the year, the entire inside areas of the runs are climate controlled to keep your pet warm and comfortable in the winter and cool in the summer.
Outside Runs
In addition to an inside area, every dog has their own private outside area. Outside runs are 20 feet long and covered by a roof for protection against the elements. All outside runs are disinfected and dried daily before the dogs are let back out. Inside and outside runs are separated by a large doggie door that works via a pulley system. As an attendant pulls the rope, the doggie door opens to the great outdoors. Most dogs will pick up on this fairly quickly but for those who don’t, they will walked by an attendant to their outside area. These doors are left open all afternoon so your pet can relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors or interact and make friends with his or her neighbors.
Sleeping Arrangements
Although bedding and toys are provided and plentiful for those staying with Candlewick, luggage from home will be accepted and welcomed. No need to feel embarrassed, we fully understand and can relate to Max needing to have his teddy, baby blanket or worshiped tennis ball. Bedding such as blankets, towels or cuddle beds that can be easily washed are optimal. In case of accidents, muddy paws or soiling, bedding will be sent to our laundry room and cleaned. We do ask that favored items or those that would leave Max upset if misplaced or destroyed be left at home.
Canine Cuisine
Here at Candlewick we offer three meals a day. While breakfast, lunch and dinner are served, not every dog requires as frequent of a feeding schedule. We recommend that you request a similar feeding schedule as you give your pet at home.
Bil Jac Select
The dry kibble we serve is Bil Jac. Made from name-brand fresh chicken ingredients, Bil Jac is small slender pellets easily consumed by dogs of any size. Due to its high quality it is often used by breeders and show enthusiasts.
In addition to Bil Jac Select, we also offer Puppy, Senior and Reduced Fat Bil-Jac. If you are concerned that your pet might not like the taste of Bil Jac, we have free samples or “challenge packs” you can pick up before your boarding date. For finicky eaters we have moist saucy beef chunks served with or without dry kibble.
Food from Home
We do recommend bringing food from home if your dog has a sensitive stomach or is on a special, prescription, or raw diet. If needed for storage or preparation requirements, we do have microwaves and refrigerators for food preparation. Food supplied by pet owners is stored and prepared individually for each pet. For these reasons there is a dollar a day fee. If you chose to bring food from home, please be sure to bring enough for your pet’s entire stay.
Luggage
Every guest is provided with a canvas backed cot that sits approximately four inches off the floor. Our canine guests really find these cots comfortable. You are always welcome to bring a blanket, towel or cuddle bed to make your pets feel more at home. Our staff ensures that each pets sleeping quarters are as cozy and comparable to home as possible.
Families with Multiple Dogs
Most dogs from the same family not only get along, they are practically inseparable. If this describes your family of four legged friends, we recommend boarding your pooches together. Dogs rooming together will be separated during feeding time to monitor how much each pet consumes and to prevent food related arguments. However, if this is a cause for concern, you’re more than welcome to board your pets separately or next to each other.
Crystal Suites
For giant breeds, multiple dog families or those that love to be spoiled, we offer our crystal suites. These suites feature roomy 5 x 8 indoor and spacious 8 x 20 outdoor runs. The indoor sections are separated by four foot high solid walls and fencing. Neighbors can be seen and heard but for those less interested in social interaction, crystal suites have the space and privacy to provide comfort. These private runs are limited in number so we advise they be reserved ahead of time.
Geriatric and Special Care
Watching our beloved best friends grow older can be a difficult time. Caring for them with their prescription diets, multiple medications, supplements and other special needs can be hard as well. Our geriatric suites are meant for our elderly guests or those recovering from surgery. These all indoor suites feature orthopedic bedding or if needed, indirect infra red heating to soothe joints and muscles. Special care rates include prescription diets (supplied by the pet owner), any number of medications, daily supervised exercise and bathing as needed. Dogs that are older, blind, deaf or extremely arthritic will be welcomed into our geriatric section. However, as confident as we are in our staff’s ability as care takers, pets that are too frail or weak to stand, walk or eat on their own or cannot be accepted for boarding. We feel pets with these conditions are better suited for veterinary care.
Medications and Supplements
Prescription medications, supplements and insulin injections can be administered by our trained and experienced staff. At the time of your check-in present the medication with a description of its proper dosage and frequency. If possible, please bring medication in its original bottle versus pill cases or plastic bags. If this is not possible, drug name and dosage is sufficient. For the administration of each medication it is a dollar a day regardless of the number of times it is to be given. To ensure your pet consumes his or her medication our staff will administer the medication by carefully placing the tab on your pets tongue and gently massaging their throat. As an alternative, we have peanut butter and pill pockets to disguise the medication as something tasty. If your pet prefers to take his or her medication with something other than what we supply, you’re welcome to bring in something from home. Insulin injections are $5 a day. Please bring the correct number of syringes and be specific on feeding instructions as well as the number of units to be given.
Medical History
To keep your pet happy and healthy during his or her stay at Candlewick, we ask that you make us aware of any medical history when checking-in. Knowledge of anything from minor ailments such as fear of thunder, recent diarrhea or a chronic limp to more serious conditions like epilepsy, a torn ACL, food allergies or instance of blood in urine or stool will help our staff better care for your pet.
